In light of the recent Typhoon Yutu that hit the Northern Mariana Islands, I found myself reediting and looking through photos of my time there.  The group of islands near Guam is made up of Saipan, Rota, and Tinian dwelling in the Pacific Ocean. Have you heard of them?

My first trip to Saipan was to attend my brothers wedding, but I ended up being pretty sick for the majority of the trip. Thankfully years later I found myself living in the wonderful country of Japan and of course had to go back, this time seeing more than just Saipan. My next visit will include Rota and many more of the Northern Mariana Islands. Is there anything better than having a truly local experience when seeing a new place?

You can find the Northern Mariana Islands in your history books hosting the bloodiest battle in the Pacific during WWII as well as holding place for the atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima. When you visit, you can see these powerful glimpses of history, as well as crowd-less beaches and breathtaking nature.

Seeing the catastrophic damage of the Typhoon has been heartbreaking. These islands are unique and although not heavily visited by westerners, are worth the escape.

The Northern Mariana Islands have scars of past wars and previous storms but in the end, will always remain strong.

I know that Saipan will recover and these beautiful gems of the Pacific will be restored. And when they do, I hope you can enjoy them as much as I have (and will)!
