Although many would include Ronda, Spain as a day trip, I am glad we spent two nights – there is nothing like sunset and sunrise with the Puento Nuevo bridge as your backdrop. Even a whole weekend can only touch the surface of seeing the city, but there were a few moments in Ronda that I highly suggest. I hope this also encourages you to spend a night, as this town is much more than a day trip from Malaga.
Five things to do (that we loved) in Ronda, Spain
Drinks at Hotel Catalonia Rooftop
You may notice I am not putting “tour the bullring” on this list – not that it wasn’t fascinating in its own right, I personally was fine admiring it simply from above with some cava in hand. Hotel Catalonia has a beautiful rooftop to enjoy small bites and a cocktail (or some wine from the region). We did buy tickets and tour to see La Plaza de Toros up close, though!
Arco de Felipe V
The stone arch is named after King Felipe V (of course), and was built in the 1740’s as the city’s main entrance. The arch is situated near the Arab baths, and venturing to see this monument was beautiful on it’s own. A wonderful area to take in the old city.
La Casa del Rey Moro
My husband visited La Casa del Rey Moro while I stayed on nap duty, but his pictures looked beautiful. It has three parts: a water mine, a neo-Mudejar house and a French landscape designed garden by Jean Claude Nicolas Forestier. Gorgeous views and a lot of history here.
Puento Nuevo at sunrise or sunset
If you read my post on Ronda Airbnbs with views of the bridge, then you know I highly suggest booking a room with a view! Depending on what side of Puento Nuevo you are on sunset or sunrise may be better. Either way the lighting can’t be beat. If you book elsewhere, be sure to have a drink or dinner with the view to take it all in.
Dinner at Tragatá
A Michelin star with incredible food (that overall, was well priced considering). A warm, intimate and cozy interior with seating outside as well. The location is in the center of the city and is the perfect place to enjoy excellent tapas. Split a main dish and have a few drinks as well.
There are so many areas and ‘pueblos blancos’ I hope to visit. Even so,I wouldn’t mind venturing back to try more food, and see more of the gorgeous views Ronda, Spain offers.
Additionally, if you are looking for a wonderful locally-supported keepsake from your trip in Ronda, Spain – visit the studio of Grabados Somera! Beautiful art of scenes from Ronda.
