The Springfield neighborhood close to downtown Jax is growing into a great community as numerous new businesses have started in the area. One of my favorite coffee shops, a few breweries and a city vibe are all reasons to stay awhile in this neighborhood; making it the perfect place for a spot in the Jax Date Series. Filled with historic fixer-uppers, this area is celebrating there 150th anniversary so keep an eye out for events, including the Porch Fest in November that I am eagerly looking forward too!
If you favor a city environment in an area that is enriched with character and has such pride in their community – this place is for you.
Jax Date Series: A Springfield Stroll
Lunch at Crispy’s Pizza
One of my favorite spots in Jacksonville to grab a slice of pizza. Housed in an old department store, Crispy’s is a great setting to fill up on lunch with a large bar and variety of pizza options. Crispy’s has trivia as well as other events all in the perfect location to explore Springfield. The interior is large, spacious, and their bar is ready to serve you local beers or whatever you prefer to drink. A building that dates back to 1933, Crispy’s restaurant has been restored to keep some of the same architecture while serving an amazing variety (and of course pizza) from their menu. Amazing appetizers, salads and brunch – there is something for everyone. As they say, “everything is better at Crispy’s”.
Hop around breweries: Hyperion Brewing Company
Springfield has a few breweries that all bring something great to the table. Hyperion Brewing Company has cozy nooks, great craft beer always in rotation and an outside area for when the weather cools down. Located right across the street from Crispy’s, they sometimes offer live music and is the perfect next stop after lunch. I could sit on their comfy chairs listening to music with one of their sours all day.
Hop around breweries: Main & Six Brewing Company
My first time to Main & Six was a few weeks ago and the local, friendly vibe made me feel like I was tied in with the community. They have a passion for the Springfield neighborhood and that is evident as soon as you walk through the door. They welcome all, and have plenty of seating and options to drink. A great stop on the Springfield “Brewery Tour.”
Pick me-up at Social Grounds Coffee Company
As I mentioned before, one of my favorite coffee shops exist in Springfield. Social Grounds commitment to giving back to the city (and the world) always inspires me. This coffee is so much more than buying a lattes or pastry (although delicious). Your purchase supports their project as they work “alongside the City of Jacksonville Service Providers to employ and empower homeless Veterans and help the less fortunate”. They partner with a few amazing organizations and are consistently bettering the community. Have an afternoon pick-me up here and order your go-to or select their special – either way you won’t be disappointed.
One of the main reasons I have fallen in love with Jacksonville is the community of the growing neighborhoods all around the city. Springfield has so much passion in their small businesses and is a great place to spend a day.
