Spring is always a tricky season to pack for, and in a city like London it is quite possibly even harder. We were there in late March with some rain off and on. It was cooler in the morning and the sun being out made all the difference. I was able to pack light with only one pair of shoes! Lately I’ve been really honing in on my wardrobe and loving repeating outfits – gone are the days of needing new outfits all the time! I hope this London spring packing list is helpful if you are also headed there this season.
A few tips:
Weather
An obvious one – check the morning temperatures and when it will be the coldest. Of course look if there is rain and pack a compact umbrella if you can. If not, you can do what we did and buy one (or a few) there. We were able to put the ones we purchased in our suitcase on the way back.
Walking shoes
Like many trips to a big city you will most likely be walking a lot even with subways and buses. Comfortable walking shoes are key. I wore my sambas but I also wish I had my New Balances.
Mix and match
No need to over pack! Bring pieces that all go together. It always helps me to try on outfits before I pack so I don’t waste precious exploring time figuring out what to wear.
Notes on my London Spring packing list
We were there three full days (outfits below) and I wore the same thing traveling to and from London. Black is always a great color to travel in, especially with kids! I also loved that I could use these pieces with the clothes I brought, if needed.
It felt strange to not pack a pair of blue jeans, as a pair is usually always brought along. When I tried on outfits beforehand I realized I didn’t need it. I almost put them in “just incase” but I’m glad I stuck with the plan. I also cut the hem of old black jeans and love them so much – never be afraid to alter old articles of clothing you have before getting rid of them!
It was such a space-saver only bringing ONE pair of shoes. As mentioned above, I think I could have made use of my New Balances, because we walked a lot and they are a very comfortable shoe.
Lastly, I only needed one jacket (I am glad I had my wool one, it was chilly). I wanted to get some content with a brand I work with, and the trench was better suited, in full transparency. I would make sure to double check the weather to see if you need a heavier jacket. Spring truly is a tricky weather to pack for!
