Always eager to explore new cities, we hopped on a plane from Andalucia to visit a new region of the country. Bilbao is one of the main cities in Northern Spain and I was excited to start here for our introduction to Basque country. Of course, my main priority when visiting a a new place is to find the best coffee shops. So I hope this helps if you are looking for where to have coffee in Bilbao, Spain.

Baristas Club

Set in old town, is Bariastas Club, a wonderful coffee shop that makes everything themselves, takes pride in their impeccable coffee (no sugar or added syrup needed). With a menu that changes with the seasons, I could sit at the tables outside of the narrow quaint streets all day.

Bølge Café

On our way to see the Guggenheim Museum, we stopped at Bølge Café for coffee and breakfast. Their menu provided many filling options such as numerous toasts, eggs, yogurt bowl and of course baked goods. The design needs to be mentioned and their seating – a wonderful space in contrast to smaller coffee shops. I already miss it!

Nokora Specialty Coffee

The perfect place for high quality coffee on the go. No tables inside, but they are knowledgable about their craft and can help you order the perfect cup. I was pleasantly surprised by the speciality coffee in Bilbao, and Nokora is a great part of the scene.

Cokooncafé

Perhaps the highlight of any breakfast I ate on this trip. I would head there early for a seat (we had to wait a little bit), but oh so worth it. The name of the shop comes from Cokoonsuge, a character associated with Basque culture. Their menu consists of various toasts, porridge and the pancake special I still think about. I was able to order a pumpkin spiced latte which filled my cup for missing the States. A top choice for coffee in Bilbao.

ARVO Specialty Coffee (Guggenheim)

Another great spot with amble seating, and some tables to stand by outside. For tea, coffee or baked treats they have a community feel and excellent location.

East Crema Coffee Ercilla

East Crema has other locations in Spain such as Madrid, Valencia, San Sebastian and of course, Bilbao. Tokyo coffee (specifically a small coffee shop in the Omotesando neighborhood) inspired them to bring that craft and care to Spain. As someone who also grew their passion for coffee in Japan, I love their story. I was unable to visit this shop on my trip, but I have it saved for next time (and I hope to visit their Sevilla location).

One more place that I wasn’t able to see because it was temporarily closed, was Gürekoffee as well.
